While Beverly Dorsey has supported her family with her nursing skills, she needs a little extra income to support her physically handicapped son, who is also blind.
When Beverly went to the airport, she had to call a limo service and pay at least $65 each way. Taxis were often not equipped to transport her son’s wheelchair. As a nurse, she has met a number of people who had transportation problems. Beverly saw a need and decided to fill it on a part-time basis, with the On-Time Airport Taxi. She took the necessary steps to become licensed with the State of Georgia to provide taxi service.
Because she has other work, her service is strictly a pick-up and drop-off service. She is not able to escort a patient to an appointment.
The Airport Taxi idea came to her because of many things: her struggle with transporting the wheelchair; the fact that she didn’t want to let people know when they would be out of town; and the idea that a woman might be vulnerable by herself.
Business men and women like the idea of having a neighbor pick them up and drop them off. It’s not like having a stranger at your home.
Beverly uses her SUV which can carry three passengers with luggage. She is hopeful she can upgrade to a van with a lift so that she can provide service for a group of four or five people, and when necessary can transport power chairs and scooters. But for now, she provides a great On-Time Taxi Service to the airport for many, and hopes to be able to provide transportation to medical appointments, etc. in the future.
